Sanders wins in New Hampshire as Biden crashes  and burns

Arab News says Bernie Sanders has won New Hampshire’s high-stakes Democratic primary, according to US network projections, leaving rivals including Joe Biden in his wake as he staked his claim to challenge President Trump in Bernie wins New HampshireNovember

Sanders had 26 per cent of votes with most of the count complete in the northern state, where he routed Hillary Clinton in 2016.  

“Let me take this opportunity to thank the people of New Hampshire for a great victory tonight,” Sanders said after ABC and NBC called the result in his favour. 

“This victory here is the beginning of the end for Donald Trump,” he added.

Church of England is ‘deeply institutionally racist’ – Welby

BBC News says the Church of England is “still deeply institutionally racist,” the Archbishop of Canterbury has said. Justin Welby - CHurch of England deeply racist

Justin Welby said at a meeting of the Church’s ruling body, the General Synod, that he was “ashamed” of its history of racism.

Recently, Synod members backed a motion to apologise for racism in the Church of England since the arrival of the Windrush generation. 

The body also voted to “stamp out conscious or unconscious” racism.

Tired and understaffed, medical workers have had to deal with thousands of new cases per week in Wuhan, the city where the outbreak first emerged late last year. 

Many doctors have had to see patients without proper masks or protective body suits, resorting to reusing the same equipment when they should be changed regularly.

Jussie Smollett indicted in Chicago on multiple counts in relation to 2019 hoax attack

RT News says actor Jussie Smollett has been indicted on several counts stemming from him claiming to be a victim of a racist and homophobic attack. He was previously charged over the hoax, only to see the charges dropped. Jussie Smollet charged for hoax hate attack

The charges against the former ‘Empire’ star were confirmed on Tuesday. Smollet was indicted on six counts, including disorderly conduct, all related to lying to law enforcement or filing false police reports. 

“A Cook County grand jury returned a  six-count indictment charging Jussie Smollett with making four separate false reports to Chicago Police Department officers related to his false claims that he was the victim of hate crime, knowing that he was not a victim of a crime,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

‘Notable progress’ made in US-Taliban talks

Aljazeera news says Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said he was told by the US Secretary of State that “notable progress” had been made during continuing talks between the United States and the Taliban. US-Taliban talks make progress

In a post on Twitter, Ghani wrote that Mike Pompeo had told him in a telephone call that the Taliban made a proposal “with regards to bringing a significant and enduring reduction to violence,” as the US aims to strike a deal to take its troops home. 

The tweet indicates a possible breakthrough in US-Taliban talks in Qatar. So far, there has been a deadlock between the two due to, in part, the US insisting on a reduction of violence as part of any US troops withdrawal agreement.
