The BBC says Boris Johnson will return to No 10 with a majority of 74. 

The PM said it would give him a mandate to “get Brexit done” and take the UK out of the EU next month. 

Labour had a disappointing night, Jeremy Corbyn said he would not fight another election. Labour lost seats across the North, Midlands and Wales in places which backed Brexit in 2016.

But days ago the PM publically admitted that in fact only 31,000 nurses would actually be recruited.

Two helicopters set off from Whakatane airport for the offshore volcano. The goal was to recover the remains of eight missing people still on the active volcano. 

“Those staff showed absolute courage in order to ensure those six people were returned to their loved one,” police commissioner Mike Bush told reporters, saying they were operating in an “unpredictable and challenging” environment.

The House Judiciary Committee continued working late on Wednesday, debating the impeachment charges for more than 12 hours on Thursday before taking a break for an overnight recess. 

The panel’s chairman, Jerrold Nadler, said the panel will reconvene for a vote on the impeachment articles at 10 am on Friday. If approved, the articles would then go to the full House for a vote next week.

The book was bought by a private international buyer after it went under the hammer in Staffordshire on Thursday. 

Businessman Mark Cavoto, 51, who owns around 1,500 books from the series, ordered the collector’s item from Amazon for 1p, plus postage, without realising it was signed.
