US Republican faces backlash for suggesting IIhan Omar be hanged

Aljazeera says a US Republican congressional candidate from Florida called for the hanging of Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar and other Democrats in an email last week. Republican says Omar should be hanged

In his email, he suggested Omar be executed for treason.”We should hang these traitors were they stand,” the email allegedly read.

The email had allegedly been sent by mistake to a member of staff, but he later backtracked and sent the Tampa Bay Times newspaper a statement that said he stood by his comments. 

“Anyone who commits treason against the United States should be tried to the full extent of the law,” he said.

Australian woman jailed for lying on her CV to land $185G job

Fox News says an Australian woman was sentenced to at least one year in prison for lying on her resume to land a government job, according to a report. Ay=ustralian woman jailed for lying on her CV

Veronica Hilda Theriault, 45, was charged in September 2017 with deception, dishonestly dealing with documents and abuse of public office, ABC reported. She pleaded guilty to all charges.

Theriault was given a 25-month sentence, 12 months of which are not eligible for parole. 

She applied for the chief information officer role with the Department of Premier and Cabinet (BDC). The application was filled with false references, a fabricated education and an embellished work history.

Pamela Karlan, leave children out of politics – Melania Trump shames impeachment witness over attack on Barron

RT News says the US First Lady has weighed in on the impeachment hearings, shaming a legal expert who involved Barron Trump in her testimony. Barron Trump dragged into politics

When asked to compare President Trump’s conduct to that of a monarch during Wednesday’s impeachment hearing, the witness Pamela Karlan said that “the president can name his son Barron but not make him a Baron.” 

The First Lady, in a rare tweet, shot back saying: “A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics. Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.”

Man, 22, charged with 12 terror offences

BBC News says Andrew Dymock, 22, from Bath has been charged with 12 terror offences, linked with right-wing terrorism. 

He will appear before Westminister Magistrates Court later. man arrested for terrorism

The charges include five counts of encouraging terrorism. Four counts of offences of disseminating terrorist publications, two counts of terrorist fundraising. And one count of possessing material that is of use to a terrorist. 

The investigation is believed to be linked to extreme right-wing groups Sonnenkrieg Division and System Resistance Network.

London Bridge Attack: victims died after being stabbed in the chest – inquiry

The Guardian reports the two victims of the London Bridge attack died as a result of being stabbed in the chest, the inquests into their deaths have heard. inqest into London Bridge victims deaths

Jack Merritt, 25, and Saskia Jones, 23, both Cambridge graduates, opened at the Old Bailey in central London on Wednesday. 

Dep Supt Des McHugh said: “At 13:58 hours, police were contacted with reports that a male was attacking delegates at the event. Armed officers attended the scene. On their arrival, the man had left the building and was being restrained on London Bridge by several members of the public. The male was subsequently shot by the police.”

Congress condemns China for crackdown on Muslims

WTX News reports Congress overwhelmingly approved a bill Tuesday aimed at pressuring China over a brutal mass crackdown on ethnic Muslims in the far west of the country.

The US legislation is a similar measure to the human rights abuses in Hong Kong that angered the Chinese government. 

The House of Representatives voted 407-1 to approve the Uighur Human Rights Policy Act, which has already been passed by the Senate.

The bill passed on Wednesday, despite China protesting the bill.
