Peace deal announced between Yemeni government, separatists

Aljazeera reports Yemen’s government and UAE-backed separatists have signed a power-sharing deal to halt infighting. The deal, announced by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is to end a power struggle in the war-torn Peace deal announced between Yemeni government, separatistscountry’s south. 

Crown Prince Mohammed described the “Riyadh Agreement” as a crucial step towards a political solution to end Yemen’s bloody four-year war. 

“This agreement will open a new period of stability in Yemen. The kingdom of Saudi Arabia stands with you,” he said. Adding: “It’s a joyful day in Saudi as the two sides come together.”

It comes after Donald Trump offered ‘help’ following the ambush and murder of an American family. Trump tweeted that it was time for Mexico to wage war on drug cartels and “wipe them off the face of the earth” with “help” from the US. In an earlier tweet, he said the cartels “have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army.”

Nine family members with dual US-Mexican citizenship, mostly women and children, were gunned down after an ambush by criminal gangs.

Swedish police arrest 3 in bombings amid an increase in gang violence

Fox News says Swedish police have arrested three suspects in connection with multiple bomb blasts over the weekend. Attacks by criminal gangs have become more regular over the last year. Swedish police arrest 3 in bombings amid increase in gang violence

The first explosion was in an apartment block in the southern city of Malmo. It was followed by another that destroyed property and cars in Vaxjo, and a third in Landvetter.  

Sweden’s national bomb squad has responded to around 100 explosions so far in 2019. And is more than twice the number that took place over the same period last year.

BBC News reports the Green Party will pledge to invest £100bn a year in climate action for a decade if elected into power. The party says it will fund the pledge by borrowing £91.2bn a year, with a further £9bn from “tax changes” including a rise in corporation tax. The party will set out to make Britain carbon neutral by 2030.

Stormzy joined relatives in dismissing Rees-Moggs statement that the victims should have left the burning building. 

The leader of the House of Commons issued “a profound apology” after he told an interviewer: “I think if either of us were in a fire, whatever the fire brigade said, we would leave the burning building. It just seems the common sense thing to do.”

British born Sikh couple claim they were banned from adopting a white child because they’re Asian

The Sun says a wealthy Sikh couple who claim they were stopped from adopting a white child because they’re Asian are suing a council. The British couple wanted to raise a child from any background but the council’s adoption agency said it might be better if they “adopted from India or Pakistan” because of their ethnic roots. The couple has launched a discrimination case against the Royal Berkshire of Windsor and Maidenhead Adoptive Service. 

But the council accused the pair of requesting a ‘white’ or ‘Hispanic’ child so it would look like them.
