THE US WARNS TURKEY NOT TO ACTIVATE S-400 OR FACE ‘MORE SANCTIONS’

RT News leads with, The US has warned Turkey not to render the Russian missile defence system (s-400) operational, otherwise, they could face more sanctions. “There could be more sanctions to follow but frankly what we’d really like is for the S-400 not to become operational,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said. us issues warning to turkey not to activate s400 systems or face more sanctions

The US has been pressuring Turkey to back out of the arms deal with Russia for months, threatening to punish its ally for disobedience. The White House has been cautious to punish its ally in case of a  backlash that could see them close their bases to US troops.

RUSSIA TO BAN THINK-TANK OVER ‘SECURITY THREAT’

Arab News reports, Atlantic Council, a think-tank formerly run by the US ambassador to Moscow, is set to be banned. Russia confirmed on Thursday the think-tank was a security threat but failed to give further details of the reasons behind the ban. russia to ban us- think-tank due to security threat

“It has been established that the activities if this organisation present a threat to the fundamentals of the constitutional order and security of the Russian Federation,” the prosecutor general’s office said. 

The upcoming ban on Atlantic Council echos steps Moscow has taken against other foreign non-government organisations since Russia’s relations with the West deteriorated. Russian and Western relations have been rocky since the Ukrainian crisis in 2014 and the financial sanctions that followed.

OVER 100 DEAD IN BANGLADESH AS MONSOON STORMS CONTINUE

France 24 reports, the death toll in Bangladesh has risen to over 100 as storms and floods continue across most of the country. In just 48 hours, an estimated 20 people died. Many have fallen victim to drowning, but landslides, snakebites and lightening have also contributed to the death toll of 104.
