I have a guilty secret. I love boxing. There! I’ve said it now.

And whatever you might think, it is a sport and one which requires a lot of skill and smart thinking.

The art of pugilism is not about two violent thugs bashing it out in a square ring for the pleasure of the crowd.

The reason for outing myself was prompted by Tyson Fury’s shot a the heavyweight title he was hoping to take from Deontay Wilder in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

Annoyingly millions of us fans lost out on a chance to see Fury’s spectacular return to the sport. He was knocked down twice only to get back on his feet both times.

Throughout the fight, Fury put on a master class to demonstrate evasive tactics, counter-punching and other defensive skills. Despite hitting the canvas in the 9th and 12th round, there are those of us who think he really did outbox his opponent.

Fury has held three world titles after his surprise win over Wladimir Klitschko back in 2015. Despite outboxing Wilder with his quick feet and counter-punching the match ended in a draw.

I can only say: “When is the rematch, can I have tickets and let’s have it on British soil, please?”
