A spectacular display of fireworks and video projections launches Hull's year as UK City of Culture.

Sean McAllister, a documentary filmmaker from Hull, said the Made In Hull event – a city-wide artistic installation around major landmarks – would show people that the city had hidden culture. Historic buildings across the city became backdrops for projections illustrating the history of the area. Organisers said they hoped to attract more than one million extra visitors to Hull during 2017. You Can find a list of events happening in Hull this year by clicking here.
