France’s massive strikes see major power cuts, Eiffel Tower closed
Fox News reports the ongoing protests in France have entered their 13th day, as the opposition to the government’s plan to raise the retirement age to 64 increased.
French President Macron said his government is moving ahead with a plan to create a single universal pension system. And promises that it will be fairer and better for women who have taken time off from work as well as those currently receiving a low pension.
As the protests push through to the festive season, tourists have been turned away from the Eiffel Tower. The monument sported a closed sign after staff members walked off the job.
Commuters in Paris braced through another day of hours-long train delays as train drivers refused to return to work.

New Zealand police say two bodies may never be found after White Island volcano eruption
CNN says the bodies of two missing people after the White Island volcano erupted may never be found, police said Wednesday.
The volcano erupted on December 9 with 47 visitors on the volcano. At least 16 people were killed and two others remain unaccounted for.
They are Australian tourists Winona Langford, 17 and New Zealander Hayden Marshall-Inman, 40, who was a tour guide.
“The reality is we have to wait for Mother Nature to produce those bodies, and it may and it may not. And the reality is, we’ll be here if it does,” he said. “We are literally in the hands of the sea.”

On the eve of impeachment, Trump lashes out at Pelosi, Democrats
France24 reports an enraged President Trump said he was being subjected to an “attempted coup” and a witch trial as Democrats set a historic impeachment vote for Wednesday.
In an angry six-page letter the US President on Tuesday told Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the Democratic-led House of Representatives, that “history will judge you harshly.”
Trump referred to a famous miscarriage of justice and religious extremism in the 17th-century US, resulting in 20 executions, saying he had been given fewer rights than “those accused in the Salem Witch Trials.”

‘Mind your business’. Mixed reaction in India after 19 American universities condemn police amid citizenship bill protests
RT News says students and staff from more than a dozen American universities have produced a joint statement decrying police abuses on Indian college campuses. However, not everybody has welcomed the message from abroad.
Several top schools, including Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Stanford, voiced “solidarity” with the demonstrators protesting the recently-passed Citizenship Amendment Act and slammed police excesses in the unrest.
While some are happy for the support from abroad, a number of Indian netizens did not appreciate being lectured to by students 8,000 miles away and asked them to respectfully mind their own business.

Health strike: Thousands of nurses stage 12-hour strike
BBC News says about 9,000 nurses in Northern Ireland are to launch 12 hours of strike action at 08:00 GMT on Wednesday morning.
The nurses belong to the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) which has not participated in strike action in its 103-year history.
Alongside other health unions, they are protesting over pay and patient safety.
Nurses who are members of Unison will also be walking out.

Caroline Flack quits Love Island after assault charge
Sky News says TV presenter Caroline Flack has announced she has quit Love Island after she was charged with assault.
In an Instagram message, the 40-year-old said the ITV reality series has “been my world for the last five years” and hailed it as “the best show on telly.”
But she added: “In order not to detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down for series 6.”
Flack was recently arrested and charged with assault by beating following “a private domestic incident” reportedly involving her boyfriend Lewis Burton.
