PM Ariel Henry has resigned as a new country has been sworn in to lead Haiti which has been recently gripped by deadly violence. The outbreak of violence forced officials to move the ceremony from the National Palace to the outgoing prime minister’s office.

In response to a recent surge in gang violence, tens of thousands of individuals have evacuated the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, in recent weeks. According to UN estimates, over 53,000 people have left the city of 3 million between March 8th and March 27th.

In Haiti, police have fatally shot at least three individuals while stopping an assault on the nation’s central bank. An employee informed AFP that a “group of criminals” targeted the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) on Monday, resulting in up to four casualties and one guard being wounded.
