Boots to offer 12-minute Covid nasal swab test

BBC News says a Covid test that can provide a result in 12 minutes will be made available at high street pharmacy Boots.

The nasal swab test, which will cost £120, will be available in more than 50 stores across the UK to anyone who is not showing symptoms.

The test, and the device needed to process it, have been approved by authorities in Europe and the US.

In trials on more than 500 patients, it accurately detected the virus in more than 97% of cases.

NHS short of over £1bn for second Covid wave and onset of winter

The Guardian says the NHS has been given in excess of £1bn less than it needs to tackle the second wave of Covid-19, deal with the coming winter and restart routine operations, the Guardian has learned.

The disclosure raises questions about the pledge from the chancellor, Rishi Sunak, at the start of the pandemic to give the NHS “whatever resources it needs” to cope with the pandemic.

 Spain imposes national Covid curfew as global infection cases soar

France24 says Spain declared a national state of emergency Sunday to tackle a second coronavirus wave as the WHO reported a third straight day of record new infections around the world.

France set a daily record of more than 50,000 Covid-19 cases, while Chinese officials began mass testing to cover 4.75 million residents in the far northwest after 137 new infections were discovered there.

‘Boycott French products’ launched over Macron’s Islam comments

Aljazeera says several Arab trade associations have announced the boycott of French products, protesting the recent comments made by President Emmanuel Macron on Islam.

Earlier this month, Macron pledged to fight “Islamist separatism”, which he said was threatening to take control in some Muslim communities around France.

Saudi Arabia announces 15 more Covid deaths

Arab News says  Saudi Arabia announced 15 deaths from the coronavirus and 323 new infections on Sunday.

Of the new cases, 62 were recorded in Madinah, 41 in Riyadh, 29 in Yanbu, 24 in Makkah, 9 in Jeddah and 6 in Dammam.

The total number of recoveries in the Kingdom increased to 331,330 after 335 more patients recovered from the virus.
