CNN reports, police have confirmed the 9 victims of the Dayton shooter, Connor Betts. Amongst the victims was Mr Betts 22-year-old sister Meghan K Betts. The gunman was killed within minutes after police arrived on the scene. A further 27 people have been wounded in the attack and families of all those killed have been informed.
Police are still trying to understand the motivation behind the killings. Due to the short timeline of the attack, police believe there is little chance discrimination was behind the attack.
BBC News adds though Betts’ sister was one of the initial people killed she was not the first. They explain Betts wore body armour, carried extra ammunition and had bought the rifle, possibly legally, online. The BBC points out that 6 of the 9 victims were black, 4 of the 9 were women. Activists have called for a general strike aimed at bringing the city to a halt on Monday. The latest news suggests the two- month protest movement shows no signs of slowing down.
