Starmer now says the register of ownership included in the economic crime bill will not come into effect for 18 months – Why are oligarchs getting 18 months to sell their properties?
PM dodges the question and claims the UK is leading the way – pointing to sanctions and the Russian stock market not being able to open for three days in a row.
Chelsea FC owner Roman Abramovich to be sanctioned – Starmer
Starmer says Abramovich is a person of interest to the Home Office because of his links to corrupt practise – he asks why isn’t Abramovich subject to sanctions.
PM says it is not appropriate to discuss individual cases. He points out that sanctions are working and having a great impact, adding the govt will subsequently publish a full list of people associated with the Putin regime (who will be sanctioned he implies.)
PM announces £20 million
The PM says Putin has “miscalculated and underestimated” the resolve of the world in opposing him. He also announces an appeal for Ukraine is being launched today and every pound donated will be matched by the government – starting with £20m.
