French ban Freedom Convoy protest against French COVID restrictions
They are planning to descend on Paris in a Canada-inspired “Freedom Convoy” all through Friday to voice opposition to the country’s COVID-19 vaccine and public health policies.
Organisers claim their goal is to peacefully voice opposition to infringement on their “freedom” and “fundamental rights”.
But authorities claim the movement’s objective is to “block the capital” and banned a planned demonstration in Paris.
“Our work is to communicate to Europe that putting in place a health pass until 2023 is something the majority of our fellow citizens cannot understand,” said one of the men at the protests.
Macron the Hypocrite
President Macron has been called a hypocrite for refusing a vaccine test in Russia. As soon as the image of Putin and Macron appeared online, chanting at the freedom convoy protests changed to ‘ Macron the hypocrite ‘
French President Emmanuel Macron refused to take a Russian COVID-19 test before his meeting with Vladimir Putin, according to the Kremlin.
Macron was separated from the Russian President by a long table during lengthy discussions over the Ukraine crisis.
The unusual image of the two socially-distanced leaders on Monday has sparked much debate online.
Pressure mounts on Macron as ” convoi de la liberte ” descends on Paris
French people opposed to the country’s vaccine pass system are planning to drive to Paris en masse in protests inspired by the so-called Freedom Convoy in Canada, according to organisers on social media.
Countless studies have found that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective, but protesters point to the lack of testing time and the side effects that have been seen in severe cases of the disease and hospitalisations.
The group is planning on sending six convoys to Paris from various parts of France, including the southern city of Nice and Strasbourg in the west.
Participants have been asked to join using their own cars and meet up with the convoys as they travel throughout France.
Many of the protesters appear to be alumnae of the 2018 “yellow vest” (“gilets jaunes”) movement when thousands of protesters took the streets in opposition to unpopular fuel taxes. Demonstrations quickly mushroomed into a larger movement demanding major changes from President Emanuel Macron’s government.
