James Corden revealed he missed out on landing Brendan Fraser’s role in The Whale after the critically-acclaimed project changed directors.
The 44-year-old TV personality shared that he was set to star in the film if it was directed by Tom Ford.
At the same time as reminiscing on his loss, he shared the news that George Clooney was also attached to the movie at one point in time.
‘I was going to play that part, and Tom Ford was going to direct,’ he said.
Despite supposedly being queued up to take centre stage, the talk show host admitted to Deadline that he felt he may have been too young to ‘do it justice,’ as Brendan was 54.
It was also reported by the publication that the film’s actual director Darren Aronofsky, 53, confirmed James’ claims to be true.

As well as rumours of James’s appearance, Deadline reported that George Clooney was in fact ‘involved’, but ‘only wanted to make the film if an actual 600-pound unknown could be found to play the lead role.’
Brendan starred in the film – that was coined as his comeback – as Charlie, who was an overweight English teacher who hoped to reconnect with his daughter.
The role bagged the celebrated Hollywood star a number of award nominations for his portrayal.
James’s revelations came after he admitted he had tried out for another blockbuster but didn’t make the cut.
The former A League of Their Own host shared that he once auditioned for a part in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.

Speaking candidly with Joshua Horowitz, the famous face said that he tried out for the part of Frodo’s best friend and hobbit Samwise Gamgee, but never got offered a final call back.
On Joshua’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, James shared that his audition at the time was ‘not good’.
The part of Samwise eventually went to American star Sean Astin, 51.
‘Every single person in London auditioned for Lord of The Rings, everybody, and I auditioned for Samwise…’ the star said.
He continued: ‘I was doing the accent and everything… Mr. Frodo!’
The comedian told the host that he and two other friends went along to audition and ultimately got one call back before never hearing from producers again.
