Gustaph to represent Belgium at Eurovision Song Contest 2023
This year’s Eurovision song contest – being held in the UK – will see Gustaph represent for Belgium.
The 42-year-old Stef Caers – whose real name is Gustaph, won over the jury and public on Saturday night with the song “Because of You” in a live show at Palais 12 in Brussels.
There were seven candidates competing to represent Belgium at Eurovision – which is heading to Liverpool in the UK this year.
Gustaph won 121 points from the jury, which was made up of Alexander Rybak, Laura Tesoro, Jérémie Makiese and Nikkie De Jager, and 157 points from the viewers.
He was one point ahead of The Starlings duo Tom Dice and Kato Callebaut, who finished second, and gala dragot, who finished third with 271 points.
The other four candidates were Chérine, who scored 268 points, Ameerah (171 points), Loredana (167 points) and Hunter Falls (128 points).
Gustaph is no stranger to the Eurovision Song Contest – he has been in the show twice before: as a backing singer in 2018 in Lisbon with Sennek and in 2021 Rotterdam with Hooverphonic. At that time he was also the vocal coach of the group’s lead singer.
The semi-finals of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest will take place on 9 and 11 May – the final is set for May 13. The event was supposed to be in Ukraine – the country that won last year, but due to the ongoing war, it will be held in the UK.
