CIA-BACKED AFGHAN UNITS CARRY OUT ILLEGAL KILLINGS & OTHER ABUSE
Arab News reports Afghan security units backed by the CIA have carried out extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances, indiscriminate airstrikes and other rights abuses and should be disbanded, a rights group has said.
Human Rights Watch said it investigated 14 cases in which the CIA-backed Afghan units committed serious abuse in Afghanistan between late 2017 and mid-2019.
“They are illustrative of a larger pattern of serious laws-of-war violations – some amounting to war crimes – that extends to all provinces in Afghanistan where these paramilitary forces operate with impunity,” the group said in a report.

The Guardian says Jeremy Corbyn will seek to scorn Tory attempts to portray themselves on the side of the people against the elite. He will start his election campaign by promising to side with the public against a “corrupt system” run by those with vested interests.
He will single out individuals, including Sports Direct boss, Mike Ashley and media boss Rupert Murdock as examples of individuals Labour’s policies would target.
And will dismiss the PM’s claims to represent the “people” at his campaign launch event in south London, where he will promise to take on “born-to-rule Conservatives,” who “protect the privileged few.”
