GUNTHER picked up a huge win over Rey Mysterio (Picture: WWE)
WWE superstar GUNTHER stood tall at the end of SmackDown after a fantastic win over Rey Mysterio.
The Intercontinental Champion kept his impressive run with the prestigious title going as he beat the legendary masked luchador in the main event of Friday night’s broadcast.
A few weeks ago, Mysterio told boss Triple H he was going to retire after the emotional conflict with his son Dominik and the rest of Judgment Day on Raw was becoming too much, but The Game convinced him to accept a move to the blue brand.
That night, he earned himself a huge IC Title bout against the Ring General, and it all came to a head this week as the dominating star took on the future Hall of Famer.
Even at 47 years old, Rey is still able to deliver at a high standard, and that was no different here as he put on a cracking show in a high profile spot to prove why he’s worthy of such a spotlight.
A brutal dropkick and powerbomb weren’t enough to give GUNTHER the win, but he fired back with his trademark Lariat to get the pinfall victory over a major challenger.
The Imperium leader has all the momentum in the world at the moment, and the question now is who will be stepping up as his next challenger.
Bray Wyatt threatens stagehand, The Bloodline lay out New Day and the Brawling Brutes, and Liv Morgan goes extreme
Bray Wyatt didn’t appear in front of the live crowd on this week’s episode, but he did feature in a backstage segment midway through the show as he insists he isn’t used to sharing his feelings, so he’s not one for dealing with interruptions well.
A crew member does just that, and Wyatt insisted he wanted to ‘smash’ his head against the wall, pushing for an apology which he actually gets, while the segment saw his new logo repeatedly flash up on screen as things get weird (in a good way) before his Crown Jewel appearance.
The show kicked off with a hard-hitting No Disqualification Match between Sonya Deville and Liv Morgan, who continues to show her hardcore side.

From taking a powerbomb onto a pile of steel chairs to sending herself and Sonya crashing through a table at ringside, Liv both took and dealt plenty of punishment.
In the end, she picked up a big win to put a full stop on their feud, and it’ll be interesting to see where she goes from here.
LA Knight flirted with Ricochet’s girlfriend, and WWE ring announcer, Samantha Irvin before their bout, which added a bit of fire after the One And Only jumped him before the bell.

After a fun clash, Knight reversed a roll-up into one of his own, getting a tainted win with the use of the tights and ropes.
The Usos came out to hype up their upcoming Undisputed Tag Team Title defence against the Brawling Brutes at Crown Jewel, but The New Day’s Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston came out to stake their claim for the next shot at the champions after this weekend.

Ridge Holland and Butch attack them from behind, sparking a great brawl with Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa evening the odds as The Bloodline stands tall.
Shayna Baszler looked as dominating as her NXT days as she destroyed Natalya and picked up a decisive win with Ronda Rousey accompanying her at ringside.
Afterwards, Braun Strowman charged through five men on the entrance ramp and ended up hitting three running powerslams on MVP one night before taking on his associate Omos.
We also got an announcement for the SmackDown World Cup – to tie in with the football tournament in Qatar – while next week we’ll get Shinsuke Nakamura against Santos Escobar, who vowed to make an example out of his opponent.
WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
