Facebook board to announce decision on Trump ban

Facebook’s oversight board will announce whether former president Donald Trump will be allowed back on Facebook and Instagram. The decision will have major implications for the political future of Donald Trump and the Republican party.

Trump’s accounts were suspended indefinitely four months ago after fears of more violence following the January 6 Capitol riot  – where a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building – five people died.

“We believe the risks of allowing the president to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great,” Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said at the time.
