US JUDGE BLOCKS MISSOURI’S EIGHT-WEEK PREGNANCY BAN
Aljazeera News reports a US federal judge has temporarily blocked a ban on abortions at or after eight weeks of pregnancy. The judge put a pause on the law as a legal challenge against it plays out in court. He added that Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri are likely to win their lawsuit which says the law is unconstitutional. Missouri has just one clinic in the state that performs abortions. It has some of the country’s most restrictive abortion regulations already.

IRAN TELLS THE US TO END ALL SANCTIONS
France 24 says Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told the US to “take the first step” by ending all sanctions against Iran. It comes a day after US President Donald Trump said he was open to meeting. “The step is to retreat from sanctions. You must retreat from all illegal, unjust and wrong sanctions against the nation of Iran,” Rouhani said in a live televised speech. Adding: “The key for positive change is in the hands of Washington,” because Iran has already ruled out building an atomic bomb (America’s biggest fear).

RUSSIA OFFERS TO SEND TURKISH ASTRONAUT TO SPACE
RT News says Russia’s space agency has offered Turkey help with sending its first astronaut into space. The chief of Russia’s space agency suggested the idea to the Turkish President on Tuesday. He said: “We have a joint proposal for you – to send a Turkish astronaut into orbit to mark the Republic’s anniversary. The Cosmonaut Training Center is ready to work on this.” Moscow is keen to deepen cooperation with Turkey in the space field. Turkey’s President Mr Erdogan was flattered by the offer. Saying: “We will participate in your esteemed work. I thank you on behalf of our country, thank you for the work you have done.”

CHINA CHARGES AUSTRALIAN WRITER WITH SPYING
CNN reports Beijing has arrested a Chinese-Australian writer on charges of espionage seven months after being detained. His charges were announced by the Australian government. The writer’s Australian based lawyer said few details had been released about the case beyond the spying charges. “We don’t know whether he’s accused of spying on behalf of a third party actor — a foreign government such as Australia or the US,” his lawyer said. Adding: “We know him as a blogger and democracy activist – so we can’t conceive of any other actions outside of his role as a political agitator.” The writer’s spying charges are very worrying as espionage can carry the death penalty in China.
