Twelve years after being awarded the FIFA World Cup, Qatar will finally open its doors to the world with the official opening ceremony marking the start of the tournament later today.
It is expected that the hosts will pull out all the stops to hold an opening night extravaganza in front of the millions of people watching back home.
You won’t want to miss a minute of the action.

What time does the World Cup opening ceremony start?
The opening ceremony for Qatar 2022 will take place today (Sunday, November 20) around 2.30pm GMT.

The show will be held at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, just over an hour before Qatar face Ecuador in the first match of the tournament at 4pm.

The opening ceremony will be shown live on BBC One in the UK, as part of the build-up coverage ahead of the Group A game.

Who is performing at the World Cup opening ceremony?
A number of artists have been touted to turn up in Qatar – including BTS, Nicki Minaj, and Robbie Williams.
American rapper Lil Baby tweeted in September that he would be at the event, and it’s speculated that Canadian actress Nora Fatehi will appear to sing the official theme song of the tournament ‘Light The Sky’.
Dua Lipa, who has previously performed at the opening ceremony for the Champions League final, was rumoured to be performing in Al Khor – however, she took to social media earlier this month to confirm that she would not be attending.
