What are the Guardian and Independent’s headlines?
The Guardian and The Independent – neither tabloids, neither being sued for phone hacking by Prince Harry or any celebrity for that matter, are the only newspapers to lead on the hearing.
Both take a sympathetic tone. The Guardian leads on Stephen Lawrence’s mum and reports on her feelings of being ‘betrayed’ whilst the Independent leads with Harry’s ‘paranoia’ over ‘unlawful’s stories.
Side note: It’s interesting The Independent is continuing the line of paranoia and mental health with Prince Harry. The paper is so liberal it has been described as being republican (wanting to be rid of the monarchy) – so it’s no surprise they’ve often been sympathetic towards Harry and Meghan. But there has been a shift in tone in recent months. Whilst the paper has still remained largely supportive of Harry, there has been a few tabloid-style stories largely painting him as an unreliable narrator due to mental health.
Why the shift? The former Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday editor-in-chief Geordie Greig was recently announced as the paper’s new editor.
Geordie Greig is a close friend of Camilla, the Queen Consort.
