US says it will not back unplanned Rafah offensive
The US has cautioned Israel against launching a military offensive into Gaza’s southern city of Rafah without adequate planning, labelling such an action a “disaster.”
The White House emphasised that it would not support any significant operations in Rafah without properly considering the refugees.
These remarks follow Israel’s announcement that its military had been instructed to prepare for potential operations in Rafah. With over half of Gaza’s population now concentrated in this city bordering Egypt, approximately 1.5 million Palestinians are enduring harsh humanitarian conditions there.
On Thursday morning, Israel conducted airstrikes on parts of Rafah, with reports of Israeli tanks firing as well.
