Three killed in Houthi missile attack on cargo ship – US military
Three crew members lost their lives in a Houthi missile strike on a cargo ship near southern Yemen, according to US officials. This marks the first fatalities caused by the group’s attacks on merchant vessels.
The Barbados-flagged True Confidence, targeted in the strike, was left abandoned and adrift with a fire onboard.
The incident occurred around 11:30 local time (08:30 GMT), as reported by the US military. The Houthis claim their attacks aim to support Palestinians amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
US Central Command (Centcom), responsible for operations in the Middle East, confirmed three fatalities and at least four injuries, including three in critical condition.
“These reckless attacks by the Houthis have disrupted global trade and taken the lives of international seafarers,” it posted on social media.
