A burglar who tried to rob a mum in her own home and then sexually assaulted a female police officer who responded has been jailed for nine years.
Lemech Baldeo, 35, barged his way into a woman’s flat in Birmingham after hurling plant pots at her home at 10pm.
She bravely fought back but Baldeo shoved her back inside the flat and demanded cash.
He punched her in the face, bit her and began pulling at her clothing on April 28 this year.
The terrified mum managed to get free and raise the alarm with neighbours who called police.
Two female officers dashed to the scene in Stockland Green and arrested and handcuffed Baldeo.
But as they led him from the flat he became abusive, kicked out and grabbed one officer between her legs.
Officers bundled him into a police car where he racially abused them and headbutted one, causing her to suffer a split lip.
Baldeo, of Handsworth, admitted robbery, sexual assault, criminal damage, assault on emergency worker and racially-aggravated assault.
He was jailed for a total of nine years at Birmingham Crown Court and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for ten years.
After his sentence on November 28, Detective Constable Victoria Livingstone, of West Midlands Police, said: ‘This was a horrible series of crimes committed by a dangerous man who is now behind bars for a significant period of time.
‘There was a sexual element running through all this which has not only resulted in a jail term but Baldeo will also be monitored on the sex offenders register after he is released.
‘We have also been able to offer support to the victim and to our officers who are now being able to move on from this harrowing experience.’
