Following Inauguration day 2021, United States President-elect Joe Biden plans to issue a number of executive orders on his first day in the White House – rescinding the controversial ban on several predominantly Muslim countries will be one of them.

Shortly after taking office in 2017, Trump issued an executive order banning travellers from seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the United States. The order was reworked several times amid legal battles a version of it was upheld by the US Supreme Court in 2018.

Biden’s incoming White House chief of staff, Ron Klain, circulated a memo that said the new US administration will launch a spate of reversal on policies that were implemented by the outgoing president, Donald Trump.

In the first 10 days, the Biden administration will revisit anti-coronavirus policies, rejoin the Paris Agreement and immigration legislation barring millions, mostly Muslims, from gaining citizenship.

Inauguration day 2021 – What will happen on 20 January?

The inauguration rehearsal scheduled for Monday has already been postponed once on security grounds. The FBI has warned of possible armed marches by pro-Trump supporters across state capitols.

All 50 US states and the District of Columbia (DC) are on alert for possible violent protests.

Mr Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris will take the oath of office in front of the Capitol building, overlooking the National Mall.

Normally a crowd of hundreds of thousands would be there to witness a significant moment in American national life.

Once he is sworn in, Mr Biden will issue executive orders to reverse President Trump’s travel bans and re-join the Paris climate accord.
