The Guardian - Poor nations paying twice for climate breakdown

Summary of the front page

A Guardian exclusive quotes a senior civil servant’s claims that Gavin Williamson, former defence secretary, told them to “slit your throat” in what they felt was a sustained campaign of bullying.

The paper’s front page also reports that Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley warned that a failure to tackle climate change could create one billion refugees by 2050 and accused rich nations of failing the developing world.

Ms Mottley said in a speech that the industrial revolution had been achieved at the expense of poorer nations, but that they will also see the worst effects of climate change. “That is fundamentally unfair,” she said.

Profile: the departing Cabinet Office minister curried favour with PMs but has proven prone to ineptitude It is perhaps the greatest testament to Gavin Williamson’s mastery of the baser political arts that three separate prime ministers have seemingly found him indispensable despite his striking record of ministerial mishaps and, at times, sheer ineptitude. Further evidence of Williamson’s political antennae comes from his parallel habit of backing winners: he was an early supporter of Theresa May,
