Mary Trump accuses her uncle Donald of ‘cheering on Afghanistan chaos’ as new book explores US’s past traumas
The i says a niece of former US President Donald Trump has accused him of “cheering on the chaos” in Afghanistan as fear and uncertainty continues to grip the impoverished nation.
Psychologist and author Mary Trump told i that the way the US withdrawal from Afghanistan was handled is indicative of how Americans deal with past trauma – by not acknowledging it. “It’s as if the last 20 years didn’t happen,” she said. “It’s as if Joe Biden started the war in January and ended it now, and it’s all on him.”
Trauma is a theme she explores in her new book The Reckoning, in which Ms Trump attempts to figure out how the US became “so vulnerable to incompetent and corrupt leaders” by looking to its past.
