Proud Boys leader jailed for 5 months for burning black church’s Black Lives Matter banner

The i says the leader of US extremist group the Proud Boys has been jailed for five months after tearing down a historic black church’s Black Lives Matter banner and burning it.

Enrique Tarrio was part of a group of Proud Boys who ripped down a banner bearing the phrase #BLACKLIVESMATTER from Asbury United Methodist Church in December 2020, before setting it ablaze using lighter fluid, DC Superior Court heard.

The Miami-based “Latinos for Trump” activist was arrested in Washington DC in January days before the insurrection at the US Capitol, when he was found to have two high-capacity firearm magazines emblazoned with the Proud Boys logo in his possession.
