TRIESTE – A 66-year-old woman died, her 73-year-old husband and 28-year-old daughter hospitalized in very serious conditions. This is the outcome of carbon monoxide poisoning that occurred last night in a house in Carnia, in Forni di Sopra (Udine). The alarm went off at 4.30 am after a call received by the Sores Fvg operations center from the single number for emergencies in Tuscany where the woman’s partner is in serious condition. He had in fact received worried messages from his girlfriend who was having continuous vomiting and symptoms of loss of consciousness.
The nurses managed to contact the young woman and invite her to leave the house. Instead, it was the neighbors who took his parents outside, who were not answering their phone calls.
The firefighters and an ambulance from Tolmezzo were sent to the scene; a rescue helicopter used for night flights and with a medical team on board landed in Ampezzo (Udine). Here the carabinieri were waiting for the paramedics to take them to the peripheral site of the accident. When they arrived in Forni the woman was already dead; her husband, however, was immediately intubated and transported by helicopter to the Trieste hospital in Cattinara, where he underwent oxygen therapy in a hyperbaric chamber. The daughter was finally taken by ambulance to Tolmezzo. Both she and her father are in very serious conditions.
The firefighters are trying to identify the causes of the poisoning. According to initial investigations, the monoxide may have been released from the home’s heating system.
