    Keir Starmer welcomes al-Assad’s downfall, urges protection for civilians and minorities – video

    British prime minister Keir Starmer welcomed the end of Bashar al-Assad’s rule in Syria as he called for peace and the protection of civilians. Starmer said the UK was focused on a political solution to restore peace and stability. ‘What we must also ensure as we go through this, the rejection of terrorism and violence, that civilians are protected, minorities are protected. That can only be through a political process,’ Starmer said. ‘That’s what we’re talking to allies in the region about at the moment’
