Keir Starmer to put forward Labour Gaza conflict vote
Labour leader Sir Kier Starmer will attempt to put his party’s position on the Israel-Hamas conflict to a vote on Wednesday, in a bid to maintain party unity.
The party plans to table a Commons motion reflecting concerns over the civilian death toll, and urging longer pauses in the fighting to deliver aid. But it will echo Sir Keir’s position and stop short of urging an immediate ceasefire.
Dozens of Labour MPs have already called for a ceasefire, defying the party’s official stance.
And 19 members of the frontbench have also publicly diverged from the party’s official stance.
