Jan 6 panel: Trump subpoenaed to testify
The January 6 panel who are investigating last year’s Capitol riot has issued a subpoena for former president Donald Trump to testify.
If he does not comply with the subpoena, he could face criminal charges and imprisonment.
The select committee is looking into Trump supporters’ storming of Congress on 6 January 2021.
The panel is made up of seven Democrats and two Republicans – they voted 9-0 in favour on Thursday of issuing the subpoena for the former Republican president to provide documents and testimony under oath.
The subpoena is expected to be issued in the coming days and includes a deadline for when the former president must comply.
