The year 2022 will be remembered by many for the cost of living crisis.
Energy prices, food prices, mortgage prices... basically a lot of prices have gone up, leaving many people worried about paying their bills and concerned for their financial future.
In April this year, a £150 council tax rebate was brought in to try to offset the rise in council tax payments, which many people have already received through their council.
But what if you’ve not had it through yet? Or haven’t heard anything about it at all?
There is still time to claim, including a newly-revealed deadline for ensuring you get the rebate, if you’re entitled to it.
Here’s all you need to know.
How to claim the council tax rebate – and your new deadline

In England, households that are in council tax bands A to D were (and still are) eligible for the £150 rebate.
The one-off £150 payment will, for most people, have been paid directly to you by your local authority – without needing to apply for it or worry about anything else.
Money Saving Expert (MSE) notes that 19.1 million households have received their rebate this way already.
However, if you don’t pay your council tax by direct debit, you may have yet to receive anything. You should have previously been contacted by your local council about it.
If you haven’t, you can contact the council yourself to claim it.

It’s now been revealed by MSE that Wednesday, November 30 2022 is the deadline for claims.
Not sure how to contact them? Don’t even know if you’re in an eligible band Fear not. You can check if your property is in one of the eligible bands (A, B, C or D) by visiting the UK government’s website.
Once you’ve made contact, you’ll be given an option for receiving the £150.
It may be through a voucher, or as a credit on your council tax account. How it’s paid might vary from council to council.
One thing to keep in mind that those in council tax bands E to H in England and Scotland don’t qualify for the rebate – unless considered vulnerable, on a low income, or are exempt from council tax payments.
