God Of War Ragnarök will see the return of many Norse gods, including Thor, who is the first big boss you’ll encounter.
Commonly known as the God of Thunder and Lightning, Thor will put up quite the fight in God Of War Ragnarök, as you’ll have to defeat him as the first proper boss fight in the game.
Unfortunately, he’s not quite as attractive or friendly as Marvel’s Chris Hemsworth, so you need to approach this boss battle with caution.
Thor can also end up doing much more damage than the massive bear you have to fight afterwards, but then Thor does come armed with his hammer Mjölnir.
As you’ll still be taking your first steps in the game, Thor’s attacks can prove quite deadly, since they deal high damage and you won’t have had any chance to increase Kratos’ health bar yet.
Even though the God of Thunder is an early game foe, he’s quite versatile, coming at you with a range of attacks.
He might start attacking from a distance at first, flinging his hammer in your direction, which you should make sure to dodge.
Some of Thor’s throws can be parried, with the right timing, but just hanging back and throwing your axe is equally effective.
When throwing your axe, don’t forget that you can build up frost for extra damage, by holding the triangle button, but that leaves you vulnerable while you do it.
For the second phase of Thor’s boss fight, you’ll be safe to follow the same strategy, though this time around you can also pick up columns and throw them at him.
Try not to overuse this attack method, as Thor could catch you off guard when you’re walking around, trying to find pne.
Once you start doing some damage, Thor will start shooting lightning and running at you with his charged Mjölnir in hand.
These attacks can’t be dodged, so you must stand your ground and block or parry them, before attacking – get it right and Thor will be in his most vulnerable state.
Once you get him down to down to one-and-a-half bars of health, the third and most crucial part of the fight will begin.

Thor will employ all the same attacks as before, but now a red circle will appear during his lightning moves.
Try to avoid standing in front of the red circle at all costs, as when Thor strikes, you’ll likely die if you haven’t got a whole lot of health left from the previous two phases.
As usual, the easiest way to die in God Of War Ragnarök is to take Kratos’ aggression too far, so remember to take a few steps back now and then.
When you get Thor down to just one health bar, don’t hesitate to press the R3 prompt to finish the fight and move on with the rest of the quest’s objectives.
