Love Island has officially returned for 2023, meaning that many of us around the nation have resigned ourselves to the fact that we’re going to be glued to our TVs (as well as Twitter for the memes) almost daily from 9pm.
The winter series marks a lot of new changes, including a brand new villa in South Africa as well as a changing of the guard, as Maya Jama takes over as host from her predecessor Laura Whitmore.
Maya made her debut on the series during the first episode, introducing the first batch of boys to the girls as the initial couples were formed.
Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins are already being tipped as potential winners, due to how quickly they clicked with their chemistry and mutual love for Harry Potter.
Kai Fagan caught the attention of both Anna-May Robey and Olivia Hawkins, before deciding to recouple with Tanya Manhenga in the first significant shake-up of the show.
With all eyes on the islanders, as well as the series’ presenter, here are some facts about Maya that you may not have known before.

A day before her birthday last year, she shared a post on Instagram revealing her birthday weekend had begun.
In the clip, she recreated a video that went viral of a young girl who couldn’t contain her excitement when being dropped off at school.
Several people wished her a happy birthday in the comment section of the post, including rapper Tinie Tempah and former Love Island winner Amber Gill.
‘Happy birthday r kid,’ added footballer Jesse Lingard at the time, while radio presenter Chris Stark wrote: ‘Hahaha go on maya. Happy Birthday! X.’
How tall is the Love Island host?
In a tweet posted seven years ago, Maya confirmed her exact height when a fan who saw her out and about remarked that she looked shorter than they had suspected.
‘@MayaJama just walked past me at Baker Street station and rah she’s shorter than I thought,’ they wrote.
‘I’m 5’8 how tall did you think I was???’ she responded incredulously, alongside a cry-laughing emoji.
In another tweet posted in May 2021, Maya wrote that she was 5’8 and a half, but because she likes wearing heels, she often ends up looking as though she’s 6ft.
Love Island returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
