RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 4 star Dakota Schiffer has opened up on her elimination from the competition, saying that in her opinion, she doesn’t think judge Michelle Visage ‘got her drag’ throughout the series.
On last night’s episode on BBC Three, the remaining six contestants took part in the family resemblance challenge, where they were tasked with making over a member of the ‘Queen Team’, a group of people who work behind the scenes looking after them on the programme.
While Dakota stunned on the runway with her peach look alongside her partner Lucie, in the end, head judge Michelle decided – after consulting with an absent RuPaul – that it was the 22-year-old’s time to sashay away.
The queen, who made herstory as the first trans performer ever to compete on Drag Race UK, spoke to Metro.co.uk and other media following her exit, saying that it was ‘fabulous’ to have Michelle heading the judging panel alongside Raven, Graham Norton and Boy George.
‘Obviously it was a bit strange,’ Dakota recalled. ‘Apparently I’m the queen of firsts – first queen to hate musicals on Drag Race UK. First transgender queen on Drag Race UK, first to be eliminated by Michelle Visage.
‘The experience is ironic actually, because I really think Michelle didn’t get my drag while I was there,’ she said, before adding while laughing: ‘So it’s quite funny to actually have her eliminate me in the end. I feel like she got her way by the end of it.’

Dakota emphasised that she wasn’t the kind of person to get ‘sentimental’ over the fact that RuPaul wasn’t the one to tell her to leave the main stage, whereas other queens might have felt differently.
‘I didn’t need to hear the words from Ru at the end of it. I was just very grateful to be there in the first place,’ she stated.
‘I’m glad it was me, because I know a few other queens probably would have been a bit upset not to hear those last words from Ru.’
The competition has reached such a high calibre of drag in the lead-up to the final that deciding who should be in the bottom two for the lip sync is no easy feat.

After Dakota made her exit, several fans expressed their belief that she was ‘robbed’ of her place in the top five, a reaction that she said she found ‘affirming’.
‘The positivity is insane. I had no idea there was going to be this reaction to my elimination. I think it was hinted at, but I had no true idea of what it would actually be like in practise,’ she shared.
However, she also called out the negativity that some fans direct at other queens after eliminations, calling on trolls to stop sending the cast any derogatory messages.

‘It comes with, unfortunately, quite a lot of negativity towards the other queens, which I wish would stop in its tracks because you can uplift people without having to drag down others. That is something that a lot of people and Twitter trolls seem to neglect, unfortunately,’ she said.
Dakota added that she feels ‘so grateful’ that fans enjoyed what she did on the show, adding: ‘I’m glad that I left doing something that I was really proud of and feeling accomplished in what I did. There was nothing I felt like I could have done more so at least I did go out bombing a challenge.’
As for what Dakota has next in the pipeline, the fashion-forward queen revealed that fans should keep their eyes peeled for February, when London Fashion Week is due to take place.
If anyone deserves a prime spot showing off their sartorial talents on the LFW runway, it’s Dakota!
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK returns next Thursday at 9pm on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
