It’s the second coming of Donald Tusk with implications well beyond Poland’s borders. Two months after a general election marked by a huge turnout comes a comeback for the center-right leader. Tusk’s first stint as prime minister was followed up by a move to Brussels where as president of the European Council, he found himself clashing with the leadership of his own country. 

The main party leaders facing off in Poland’s upcoming parliamentary election called on voters to give their respective parties winning support as they held final campaign rallies Friday. Opinion polls suggested a close race as the country remains deeply divided on several key issues. FRANCE 24’s Gulliver Cragg reports from Warsaw, Poland. 

Holocaust survivors, descendants mark 80th anniversary of Warsaw Ghetto Uprising EU

Descendants of the 400,000 Jews imprisoned in the Warsaw Ghetto marked the 80th anniversary of their doomed uprising against their Nazi occupiers on Wednesday with concerts, exhibitions and speeches given by Polish, German and Israeli leaders. Family members of the survivors gathered to share their ancestors’ stories and asked questions about Poland’s fight against anti-Semitism today.
