Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has reportedly been admitted to a hospital in Florida with ‘abdominal pain’.
Bolsonaro is hospitalized at Advent Health Celebration near Orlando, the newspaper O Globo reported on Monday, one day after his supporters stormed the capital of Brazil. He was experiencing ‘severe’ pain, according to the report.
The far-right politician’s supporters refused to accept his election loss and on Sunday broke into Brazil’s Congress, presidential palace and Supreme Court.
Bolsonaro arrived in the US two days before his term ended on January 1 and leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was sworn in as Brazil’s president.
The attack on Brazil’s capital was reminiscent to the insurrection on January 6, 2021, when ex-President Donald Trump’s supporters broke into the Capitol building seeking to stop Congress members from certifying Joe Biden’s victory.
Bolsonaro has been hospitalized on several occasions recently, including after being stabbed while campaigning in 2018 and for gut blockages.
