India bridge collapse – death toll rises to 141 There is heartbreak and shock in India following the collapse of a bridge in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Sunday. The death toll has risen to at least 141 people and dozens are injured. Hundreds of people were on the pedestrian suspension bridge – a major tourist attraction in the Morbi district – when it collapsed into the Machchu river.  Officials confirm the victims include several children and elderly people.  The bridge had only reopened days earlier, following a closure for repairs. Brazil election: Lula beats out far-right Bolsonaro Brazil has elected Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva – the left-wing former president, who was imprisoned in 2018 but had his conviction thrown out. Breaking – Massive strikes hit major cities including Kyiv Russia has launched a massive missile strike across Ukraine – including the capital Kyiv, causing power and water outages, according to officials. At least two blasts were reported in Kyiv, one resident told the BBC his district was now without electricity. Billionaire Branson declines Singapore death penalty TV debate British billionaire Sir Richard Branson has turned down an invitation from Singapore’s government to take part in a live TV debate about the country’s death penalty and drugs approach.  He was invited to take part in a discussion having previously said he was opposed to Singapore’s death penalty for crimes such as drug trafficking. Jemma Mitchell: Killer who decapitated friend must serve 34 years Jemma Mitchell has been sentenced to serve at least 34 years for the murder and decapitation of her friend. Mitchell was found guilty of murdering 67-year-old Mee Kuen Chong at her London home in June 2021. She put the body in a suitcase before dumping her.
