The mood amongst Democrats is low as two swing states have been called for Trump – with most people leaving soon after. The night had been like a party just a few hours earlier. All polls have now closed – the last to do so were in Alaska and Hawaii. The current projections have Republican Donald Trump on 246 electoral college votes and Democrat Kamala Harris on 187. A candidate needs 270 to win the White House. So far, two swing states have been projected – North Carolina and Georgia – and both have gone to Trump. There are five more battlegrounds still to be called, though early projections suggest Trump is ahead in all of them.

Elon Musk joins Trump during election night watch The world’s richest man planned to spend election night with Donald Trump in Florida at his Mar-a-Lago resort, he has said on X/Twitter.  Musk has backed Trump for president in recent weeks and has controversially been awarding prizes of $1 million to voters in swing states. Harris was projected to defeat former President Trump in Hawaii, according to Decision Desk HQ, adding the deep-blue state’s four Electoral College votes to Harris’s column. Hawaii has voted blue in every presidential election since 1988, and it was seen as a safe state for Harris heading into Tuesday’s election.

It’s election day in the US and millions of Americans will be heading to the booth to cast their vote for either Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump. 

The front pages are heavily dominated by election coverage as they urge the public to make sure they get out and vote. The papers dissect both candidates, what they are offering and what could swing the election for either candidate. 

Recent polls suggest the race remains on a knife’s edge and at present there is no clear indication of what way this election could swing – or even whether America will have an answer tonight.

The US presidential election is unsurprisingly the lead for many front pages this morning as millions of Americans will head to the polls to cast their vote for either Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump.
Some of the newspapers lead on politics a little closer to home as PM Keir Starmer announced student loans in England are set to rise, despite promising to abolish tuition fees. The papers describe it as an astonishing “u-turn.”
The newly elected leader of the Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, has started to appoint her shadow cabinet. The news of the appointments find space on the front of several newspapers.
