Times Sport – Top flight tells clubs: Be patient with VAR
The Premier League has asked its clubs and players to be mindful of criticising referees and to show them “patience” this season.
Premier League matches will have less stoppage time this season after referees were instructed to allow 30 seconds after every goal is scored before adding on time for celebrations or VAR delays.
The change should reduce last season’s average match length of 101 minutes 35 seconds to closer to the 100-minute mark — ten minutes of stoppage time. Last season, 3.1 goals were scored per Premier League game on average, which if similar in the new campaign would mean 1min 30sec less stoppage time per match.
