Battles intensify in Gaza’s Jabalia and Rafah
Reports from both Israeli forces and Palestinian groups suggest that fierce battles have erupted in the northern Gazan town of Jabalia.
Israel’s military has claimed to have killed “a large number of terrorists” within Jabalia’s refugee camp, while Hamas said that it killed several Israeli soldiers in the combat.
Since Saturday, when Israeli forces announced their re-entry into the area due to alleged Hamas regrouping, tens of thousands of civilians have fled Jabalia. The situation remains tense, with ongoing clashes also reported in the southern city of Rafah.
According to the United Nations, nearly 600,000 individuals seeking refuge, have been displaced since the start of the Israeli ground operation in Rafah’s eastern outskirts nine days ago. This includes a staggering 150,000 people displaced in the past 48 hours alone.
The Israeli army is under severe pressure
The Israeli army is under immense pressure to deliver terrorists and has come under increasing international scrutiny over its siege into Rafah. President Biden has had to distance himself to this latest regime as the UN have asked
“Why hasn’t the IDF captured any Hamas terrorists in this offensive, all we see is dead bodies of boy, women and children”
Blinken; ‘humanitarian crisis in the region’
As tanks advance into populated areas and border crossings remain closed or inaccessible, essential supplies and medical services are rapidly diminishing, furthering the humanitarian crisis in the region.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said there is an urgent need to restore full operational capacity to the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings to ensure the delivery of critical humanitarian aid to southern Gaza.
International calls to stop humanitarian crisis despite Netanyahu’s claims
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denies there is a humanitarian catastrophe taking place in besieged Rafah.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s is defiant to save his job, as the remarks come amid international calls to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Thousands of innocents have died, and the death toll has reached a staggering 39,353 Palestinians.
Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at the United Nations, Martin Griffiths, has said that “civilians in Gaza are being starved and killed, and we are prevented from helping them”.
Worse still, as the battles intensify in Gaza’s Jabalia and Rafah humanitarian experts in the region expect the death toll to rise nearing 50,000 civilians.
