US-based sandwich chain Subway is moving to reinvent itself with plans to build electric vehicle charging stations at some of its restaurants.
The Subway Oasis charging parks at select, new or remodeled restaurants would include several charging ports, picnic tables, wifi, playgrounds, green space and restrooms.
They will be piloted starting this year, Subway announced on Tuesday, as part of a partnership with electric vehicle charging provider GenZ EV Solutions.
‘We’re constantly exploring new ways to innovate and exceed our guests’ expectations for a high-quality, convenient experience,’ stated Subway’s chief operating and insights officer, Mike Kappitt.

‘Our partnership with GenZ EV Solutions is a win for our guests, our franchisees and our planet, creating a dedicated space for drivers to charge their vehicle while enjoying their favorite Subway sandwich.’
The plan comes after Subway shuttered more than 1,000 of its restaurants across the US. The beleaguered sandwich chain is also exploring a possible sale and is seeking at least $10billion from a new owner.
Subway has more than 37,000 locations in 100 countries.
‘As drivers increasingly shift to electric vehicles, Subway, with its unmatched footprint, is well positioned to offer a quick, reliable charge to EV motorists and contribute to a national network of charging stations,’ the company stated.
GenZ EV Solutions is working with RED E Charging on software and operations for charging stations and the Subway Oasis.
‘Equitable access to charging is essential to the adoption of EVs in the future and Subway’s scale will play an important role in democratizing charging infrastructure for millions of Americans,’ stated GenZ EV Solutions CEO Jose Valls.
‘By coupling our technology and know-how with Red E Charging’s strategic site selection and Subway’s network of restaurants across the US, we are continuing to make key strides in building the EV infrastructure of tomorrow.’
