Bafta has confirmed that Bernard Cribbins will be honoured when the in memoriam segment is shown at the upcoming TV awards, after he was omitted during the recent film awards at the weekend.
Fans expressed their upset over his absence from the section of the ceremony paying tribute to stars of the entertainment industry who had died in the past year, after he died in July last year aged 93.
When people criticised the decision for Cribbins to be left off the list, Bafta issued a response and an apology, which some people labelled ‘tone-deaf’.
In the statement posted on Twitter in response to those questioning the decision, they wrote: ‘With limited time in our broadcast it isn’t possible to honour all those who have sadly passed away. Bernard features in our online records at http://bafta.org/heritage/in-memory-of and given his influential work in TV, he will be considered for inclusion in the next Television Awards broadcast.’
Nonetheless, Bafta has since shared a new statement with a slight tweak, confirming that Cribbins will definitely be in the line-up of late stars.
‘Bernard Cribbins had a celebrated and hugely influential career in film and TV, and is honoured on our website (https://bafta.org/heritage/in-memory-of) Bernard will be included in our upcoming Television Awards broadcast,’ they wrote.

The Bafta TV Awards are due to take place this year on Sunday May 14, while the Bafta TV Craft Awards are set for Thursday April 20.
Nominations will be announced on Wednesday March 22 ahead of the ceremonies.
When people watching the Bafta film awards realised that Cribbins hadn’t been mentioned in the in memoriam segment, many were irate.

‘Utter madness. I didn’t watch the BAFTAs, but Bernard Cribbins was one of our most famous and beloved TV and film actors of all time. He was a national treasure, and delighted audiences across generations. How could the BAFTAs not give him a mention?’ one person tweeted.
‘H Darlings, have watched The BAFTA’s on TV & I’m absolutely appalled that the fabulous Bernard Cribbins was not mentioned in stars that we’ve lost within the last year, they should be disgusted with themselves, words fail me XxXxX,’ another said.
Cribbins’ career spanned seven decades, starring in productions including The Railway Children, the Carry On films, Fawlty Towers and Doctor Who.
A statement released by his agent Gavin Barker Associates following his death read: ‘‘Bernard’s contribution to British entertainment is without question. He was unique, typifying the best of his generation, and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him.’
