By now you must’ve seen the trailer for the new sci-fi horror about a creepy robot doll called M3GAN? Well, Australian producer James Wan is already thinking about making a sequel.
The 45-year-old filmmaker has only just dropped the flick on the big screen, but is now hinting that he is going to make it a franchise. If you’re a light-horror fan, that’s good news, because people have been raving about it.
James A. Janisse of the Dead Meat YouTube channel called the character M3GAN ‘an instant icon’ while film critic Courtney Howard described it as ‘bonkers and brilliant’.
And bonkers it is. M3GAN is a robot who exists to cure her human sister-pal from loneliness, except she, er, gets a bit obsessed. Think My Sister’s Keeper meets Chucky, and you’ve just about got the measure of this twisted, hilarious riot of a film.
Speaking to Collider about the potential of another installment of psycho-robot M3GAN, James said: ‘What I will say to that is, whether it’s The Conjuring Universe, or Saw, or Malignant, or M3GAN here, we like to think of a bigger world.

‘For me, it’s about creating the world, and knowing who the characters are, where the story could potentially go, and then building this bigger world, and then going into that and going, “Okay, I’m telling this particular story, but I know other stuff that’s going on.”‘
The Aquaman director added: ‘So if we’re fortunate enough to have sequels, then we have an idea of where we want to go.’
More: film
And it’s PG, too. Director Gerard Johnstone recently revealed how the movie, starring Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, had to be reshot repeatedly to get it under the 13-year-old age rating.
He told Total Film it was always ‘close’ to the rating anyway, but he claimed that rethinking some scenes actually enhanced the quality of it. The fans certainly think so.
