Sandi Toksvig has shared an update with fans after she was admitted to hospital while on tour in Australia, expressing her thanks to the medical workers who have looked after her.
At the weekend, it emerged that the comedian had been forced to cancel her tour of New Zealand and Australia due to ill health.
A statement posted on the Twitter account for the former Great British Bake Off presenter read: ‘Due to illness, Sandi has cancelled the New Zealand leg of her tour. She has been admitted to hospital with bronchial pneumonia while still in Australia and is unable to travel & perform.
‘Our main priority is getting her home to the UK as soon as she is well enough.’
In a new message, Sandi, 64, explained that she’s waiting until she’s healthy enough to travel back home to the UK.
‘Thank you to everyone who has sent such kind words while I’ve been unwell. I am now out of hospital and continuing my convalescence in Australia until I’m fit to fly home,’ she said.
‘My undying (literally) thanks to the amazing Australian health service.’
One fan responded: ‘So pleased to hear this. It will be much better to convalescence in Australia in the warmth than here in the UK, so make sure you really are well enough to come back.’
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power actor Sir Lenny Henry added: ‘Hope you’re feeling better…xx.’

Dawn Butler MP also wrote: ‘So glad you are feeling better… please come back fit and well so we can go out… you made me laugh soo much I almost wet myself.’
Pneumonia, the condition Sandi was discovered to be suffering from, is swelling of the tissue in one or both of the lungs, the NHS explains.
Bronchial pneumonia is a form of pneumonia that affects both the alveoli in the lungs and the bronchi.
Sandi was on the other side of the world to make her debut touring in New Zealand and Australia with a new comedy show called Sandi Toksvig Live!
It was due to take in nine cities across the countries throughout November and December 2022.
