Bray Wyatt got physical on WWE television for the first time since WrestleMania 37 with a surprise attack on SmackDown.
The Eater of Worlds, who continues to grapple with his inner demons and the sinister Uncle Howdy, appeared to succumb to the voices in his head this week as he targeted LA Knight in a surprise move.
It’s the first time Wyatt has got physical in 19 months, following his match against Randy Orton at the huge showcase in early April 2021.
After that night, he made an appearance in the Firefly Fun House before being taken off television and then shockingly released that summer, before making a sensational return at Extreme Rules last month.
Since then, he’s kept fans engaged with his words, fighting more with himself and his own mind than other stars.
That changed this week when his logo and imagery hauntingly interrupted a backstage interview by LA Knight, who took exception with the turn of events.
It didn’t get any better for the former NXT standout though, as he turned to find himself face to face with Wyatt himself.
The pair shared a brief exchange, with LA Knight mocking the sinister star and telling him to go and play with his puppets, which earned him a strong headbutt as Bray found himself giving in to his violent feelings.
While it might seem like a very leftfield feud for Wyatt after his epic comeback, it’s a smart move to give him a mini storyline to whet fans’ appetite while everyone is still waiting to find out the truth behind Uncle Howdy and his creepy mask.
When it comes to Bray’s tormentor, he made an impact at Crown Jewel last weekend, interrupting the former world champion after a passionate speech referencing his time as The Fiend and vowing to rewrite the ending to his own story.
However, Uncle Howdy instead issued a warning and said: ‘If you’re worried about the aftermath then hurt them, just don’t take the mask off.’
WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
