The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reported 2,526 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday, signalling the much feared ‘UAE Covid surge’ after conducting further 175,033 tests.
These cases raised the total number of infections recorded in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic to 394,050.
Monday’s figures showed that 1,107 patients were cleared of the virus – bringing the total number of recoveries to 382,332.

Monday’s cases were detected after another 175,033 DPI and PCR tests were carried out.
The UAE has conducted more than 30.8 million screenings since the outbreak.
A nationwide vaccination drive is also underway, with almost 6.03m doses administered to date. Another 7,956 doses were administered across the country in the preceding 24 hours.
Seventeen patients died of related complications, increasing the death toll to 1,238. The number of active cases increased to 10,480 – up 1,402 from the day before.
The number of people with Covid-19 had been steadily falling since January 30th but has been rising again since Thursday.
UAE replace Head of Emirates Health authority
In January The ruler of Dubai has replaced the head of the Emirate’s health authority without explanation, in the midst of an immunisation drive and a spike in COVID-19 infections in the United Arab Emirates.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum appointed Awad Saghir al-Ketbi as the new director-general of the Dubai Health Authority to tackle the pandemic with a view to reopening tourism to the country. However, the surge in cases has setback the task by at least another month.
