Sheikh Mohammed has announced one- and five-year visas.
The UAE cabinet has approved a new Remote Work Visa that will enable employees from all over the world to live and work remotely from the UAE, even if their companies are based in another country.
The decision was reached on Sunday during a cabinet meeting chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
In October last year, Dubai launched a residency program that allowed overseas remote working professionals to relocate and live in Dubai – along with their families – while continuing to work remotely for their overseas employer. The relocation program it said would be valid for a year, after which it could be renewed successively for a similar duration each time.
While further details of the new program are not yet available, it is most likely around similar lines, though residency rights could potentially be granted across the UAE instead of just Dubai.
During Sunday’s meeting in Qasr Al Watan, the Cabinet also approved a multiple-entry tourist visa for all nationalities, the full details of which are yet to be released.
Among the other directives issued by the Cabinet on Sunday, it approved a national system for hydrogen fuel-powered vehicles and a national water and energy demand management program to increase the efficiency of the three most energy-consuming sectors (transport, industry, and construction) by 40 percent.
Also, the Cabinet confirmed that the UAE has joined the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the New Development Bank, established by the BRICS states.
