YouTube stops Russell Brand from making money on its platform
Russell Brand, comedian turned YouTuber, has now been blocked from making money from the online platform following allegations of sexual assault and rape.
Brand now cannot monetise the videos he publishes on YouTube.
A years-long investigation from the Times, the Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches saw four women make various allegations of sexual assault, rape and emotional abuse. Another woman unrelated to the investigation has spoken to the Met Police about an alleged sexual assault in London in 2003.
Brand has denied the allegations and suggested it is instead a coordinated media attack.
“If a creator’s off-platform behaviour harms our users, employees or ecosystem, we take action to protect the community,” YouTube says.
The investigation by the newspapers and media company looked at Brand’s alleged sexual offences between 2006 and 2013, at the height of his fame.
Brand has recently cancelled his remaining UK tour dates.
